1. Love this blog(= I'm not a vegan, though I have tried...it's very hard when my parents disagree with it and think it's stupid, but some of the things you put on here look really good and relatively simple to make, so I think I'm gonna try some out(= Do you have any tips for people who are just starting to go vegan/want to go vegan?

absolutely, we have a few pages worth of advice:

    why to go vegan

    how to go vegan

    resources & links

    see all meals we’ve made

now as for your parents, i think the best thing i did for my family relationships was to be positive and food-centric.

at the beginning, keep your arguments simple and unemotional. give them facts and logic; tell them you want to eat healthier, more environmentally-friendly, and more compassionately (not just for animals but for factory-farm workers rights as well. i’ve learned that most people don’t care about animal rights, unfortunately, but they do care about human welfare.) offer to go shopping with them, keeping it cost-effective and easy. (you can find our weekly grocery budget here.) if you don’t buy boca burgers and fake cheese (we rarely, if ever, do) your weekly budget should be very small, and should work with your parents shopping list. i mean, who doesn’t buy beans and vegetables? start cooking for yourself and then offer to cook for them. people will always listen to you (and take what you’re saying to heart) when you’ve cooked them a plate full of amazing food.

i think a lot of omnivores in general get defensive because they think that you’re judging the food they’ve been eating their entire lives. just keep it positive and about YOUR choice, it doesn’t HAVE to be their choice as well. don’t let them judge you (and call you “stupid”) for wanting to try something different than how you’ve been raised. isn’t that part of growing up?
